I suggest serving the peas with a big steak from a naturally and ethically-raised animal. Your call.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Time: 60 minutes<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Serves: 4<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingredients:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>200g split yellow peas &#8211; washed<br \/>\n20ml avocado or other neutral-flavoured cold-pressed oil<br \/>\n200g yellow onion &#8211; finely chopped<br \/>\n15g garlic &#8211; finely chopped or grated<br \/>\n15g fresh ginger &#8211; finely chopped or grated<br \/>\n1.5g ground turmeric<br \/>\n3g salt<br \/>\n20g red bell pepper \u2013 seeded \u2013 small dice<br \/>\n5g cilantro &#8211; finely chopped<\/p>\n<p><strong>Preparation:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Place the peas in a small pot and cover with water. Place on high heat until a boil is reached. Reduce temperature to simmer for five minutes and set aside.<\/p>\n<p>Place a medium pot on medium heat and add the oil. When the oil is hot, add the onions, stirring occasionally for ten minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Stir in the garlic and ginger, cooking for another minute.<\/p>\n<p>Drain the peas and add them to the onion mixture along with the turmeric and salt.<\/p>\n<p>Turn heat to high and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to simmer for thirty minutes or until peas are soft and water is reduced to create a stew-like consistency.<\/p>\n<p>Serve immediately or reheat.
